Uma Maheswara Stotram
|| श्री उमामहेश्वरस्तोत्रम् ||
Uma Maheshwara Stotram is a beautiful hymn composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya in praise of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati (Uma). Each verse extols the divine couple — their eternal youth, their loving embrace, their roles as the lord and lady of the universe, and their boundless compassion towards devotees. The stotram consists of 11 verses followed by a phala shruti, with each verse ending in the refrain “namo namah shankaraparvatibhyam” (salutations again and again to Shankara and Parvati). Recitation of this stotram with devotion is believed to bestow happiness, prosperity, and ultimately, the vision of Shiva and Parvati.

Verse 1
नमः शिवाभ्यां नवयौवनाभ्याम् परस्पराश्लिष्टवपुर्धराभ्याम् । नगेन्द्रकन्यावृषकेतनाभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥१॥ parasparāśliṣṭavapurdharābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 1 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ navayauvanābhyāṃ nagēndrakanyāvṛṣakētanābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who are always in a fresh stage of youth, Who cling to each other in a tight embrace, Of whom one is the daughter of the mountain, And the other is one whose symbol is a bull, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy. || 1 ||
Verse 2
नमः शिवाभ्यां सरसोत्सवाभ्याम् नमस्कृताभीष्टवरप्रदाभ्याम् । नारायणेनार्चितपादुकाभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥२॥ namaskṛtābhīṣṭavarapradābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 2 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ sarasōtsavābhyāṃ nārāyaṇēnārchitapādukābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Whose playful love is a festival, Who grant boons to those who salute them, And whose feet is worshipped by Lord Narayana, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy. || 2 ||
Verse 3
नमः शिवाभ्यां वृषवाहनाभ्याम् विरिञ्चिविष्ण्विन्द्रसुपूजिताभ्याम् । विभूतिपाटीरविलेपनाभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥३॥ viriñchiviṣṇvindrasupūjitābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 3 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ vṛṣavāhanābhyāṃ vibhūtipāṭīravilēpanābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who rides on the divine bull, Who is worshipped by Vishnu, Brahma and Indra, And whose bodies are anointed with Sandal and holy ash, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy. || 3 ||
Verse 4
नमः शिवाभ्यां जगदीश्वराभ्याम् जगत्पतिभ्यां जयविग्रहाभ्याम् । जम्भारिमुख्यैरभिवन्दिताभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥४॥ jagatpatibhyāṃ jayavigrahābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 4 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ jagadīśvarābhyāṃ jambhārimukhyairabhivanditābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who are the lord and lady of the universe, Who are always victorious, And who are worshipped by Indra and his chiefs, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 4 ||
Verse 5
नमः शिवाभ्यां परमौषधाभ्याम् पञ्चाक्षरीपञ्जररञ्जिताभ्याम् । प्रपञ्चसृष्टिस्थितिसंहृताभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥५॥ pañchākṣarīpañjararañjitābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 5 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ paramauṣadhābhyāṃ prapañchasṛṣṭisthitisaṃhṛtābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who are themselves the greatest medicine Who are happy to hear panchakshari repeat, And who creates, rule and destroy the universe, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 5 ||
Verse 6
नमः शिवाभ्यामतिसुन्दराभ्याम् अत्यन्तमासक्तहृदम्बुजाभ्याम् । अशेषलोकैकहितङ्कराभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥६॥ atyantamāsaktahṛdambujābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 6 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāmatisundarābhyāṃ aśēṣalōkaikahitaṅkarābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who is very pretty, Who are ever interested In the lotus-like heart of devotees, And who do not have any other wish, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 6 ||
Verse 7
नमः शिवाभ्यां कलिनाशनाभ्याम् कङ्कालकल्याणवपुर्धराभ्याम् । कैलासशैलस्थितदेवताभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥७॥ kaṅkāḻakalyāṇavapurdharābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 7 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ kalināśanābhyāṃ kailāsaśailasthitadēvatābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva Who destroy the effects of the kali age, Who has a body with famished one on one side, And a pretty one on the other side, And who are the Gods living on mount Kailasa, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 7 ||
Verse 8
नमः शिवाभ्यामशुभापहाभ्याम् अशेषलोकैकविशेषिताभ्याम् । अकुण्ठिताभ्यां स्मृतिसम्भृताभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥८॥ aśēṣalōkaikaviśēṣitābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 8 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāmaśubhāpahābhyāṃ akuṇṭhitābhyāṃ smṛtisambhṛtābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who destroys all that leads to bad effects, Who are one and only one in this entire world, Who has a sharp intelligence, And who has a very deep memory of what they hear, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 8 ||
Verse 9
नमः शिवाभ्यां रथवाहनाभ्याम् रवीन्दुवैश्वानरलोचनाभ्याम् । राकाशशाङ्काभमुखाम्बुजाभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥९॥ ravīnduvaiśvānaralōchanābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 9 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ rathavāhanābhyāṃ rākāśaśāṅkābhamukhāmbujābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who is the solace for all who surrender, Who has sun, moon and fire as eyes, And whose lotus face resembles the full moon in the sky, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 9 ||
Verse 10
नमः शिवाभ्यां जटिलन्धराभ्याम् जरामृतिभ्यां च विवर्जिताभ्याम् । जनार्दनाब्जोद्भवपूजिताभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥१०॥ jarāmṛtibhyāṃ cha vivarjitābhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 10 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ jaṭilandharābhyāṃ janārdanābjōdbhavapūjitābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who attract all the people of the world, Who do not have old age death and other imperfections, And who is worshipped by Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 10 ||
Verse 11
नमः शिवाभ्यां विषमेक्षणाभ्याम् बिल्वच्छदामल्लिकदामभृद्भ्याम् । शोभावतीशान्तवतीश्वराभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥११॥ bilvachChadāmallikadāmabhṛdbhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 11 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ viṣamēkṣaṇābhyāṃ śōbhāvatīśāntavatīśvarābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who are our immediate solace in difficult times, Who both wear the garland made of Vilwa leaves And Jasmine flowers, Who are resplendent with abounding peace, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 11 ||
Verse 12
नमः शिवाभ्यां पशुपालकाभ्याम् जगत्त्रयीरक्षणबद्धहृद्भ्याम् । समस्तदेवासुरपूजिताभ्याम् नमो नमः शङ्करपार्वतीभ्याम् ॥१२॥ jagatrayīrakṣaṇabaddhahṛdbhyām । namō namaḥ śaṅkarapārvatībhyām ॥ 12 ॥
namaḥ śivābhyāṃ paśupālakābhyāṃ samastadēvāsurapūjitābhyāṃ
Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva, Who protect all beings of this earth, Whose great intent is to protect the three worlds, And who is worshipped by all asuras and devas, Salutations and salutations to Lord Sankara And to that Goddess Parvathy || 12 ||
Verse 13
स्तोत्रं त्रिसन्ध्यं शिवपार्वतीभ्याम् भक्त्या पठेद्-द्वादशकं नरो यः । स सर्वसौभाग्यफलानि भुङ्क्ते शतायुरन्ते शिवलोकमेति ॥१३॥ bhaktyā paṭhēddvādaśakaṃ narō yaḥ । śatāyurantē śivalōkamēti ॥ 13 ॥
stōtraṃ trisandhyaṃ śivapārvatībhyāṃ sa sarvasaubhāgyaphalāni bhuṅktē
The hymn which sings the praise of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy, Which the devotee recites at dawn, noon and dusk, With devotion in its twelve holy stanzas, He enjoys all fruits of great good fortune, And at the end of a hundred years attains the world of Lord Shiva. || 13 ||
